Thousands of toddlers in E. Java at risk of malnutrition: Official

Around 6,800 out of the total 3 million toddlers in East Java are at severe risk of malnutrition, says the province’s deputy governor.

Saifullah Yusuf said Thursday the problem was caused by poor parenting skills, underfeeding and diseases, tempointeraktif.com reported.

“The toddlers must receive adequate nutrition,” Saifullah told a forum in Sidoarjo.

Malnutrition cases have mostly occurred in villages in the province, where mothers are more reluctant to breast-feed their children, he added.
